Why Being Bad at Math Doesn’t Matter | Bookkeeping Services Calgary

Money and finances can be intimidating if you’re not a super math nerd or use your phone to calculate literally everything. Don’t worry, you and I both. But knowing your numbers and making smart money moves in your business is totally doable, trust me, my friend.

But Kristine…numbers really aren’t my jam.

I’ve got some good news for you. You don’t have to be a math whiz or go googly-eyed over spreadsheets to know your numbers and make smart money moves. Fo’ real! Managing your money has more to do with having easy, repeatable processes in place than it does with crunching numbers—even the pros leave the number-crunching to the computers.

It all comes down to two things: Money Mindset & Financial Literacy.

What is a money mindset?

It’s an individual’s attitude towards money, and the driving force, sometimes but not always subconsciously, behind the daily decisions we make about our money. Lots of people fall into the scarcity mindset where you’re nervous about asking for a raise, charging your worth or outsourcing (spending your money where you should be!) On the other hand, you can have an abundance mindset - this way of thinking shows up via confidence, generosity, and the feeling of having “enough” — you charge your worth without self-doubt (‘cause baby, you worth it), and you spend freely yet wisely.

Regardless of what your money mindset currently is, it is possible to improve or change it. Here are my three tips:

ESTABLISH HABITS AROUND FINANCIAL LITERACY

Start with something easy, like looking at your financial statements or bank accounts even for 5 minutes a week.

START TRACKING YOUR EXPENSES

No need for a fancy or complicated spreadsheet. Gather simple data (how much are you spending on what),  be aware, without judgment!

GIVE SOME MONEY AWAY…

Generosity does wonders to our mindset. Try giving a little money or time to your fave charity/cause or offer to pick up the bill at lunch. Simple gestures go a long way!
